Kerwin is a young, proudly South African singer that has an enormous love for music and art. His diversity in various cultural influences is evident in the way he sings and insists on composing music people can connect to.
Born Kerwin Baatjies, 23 years of age, his love for music started at the very young age of 5 where he used to sing with his father's acapella quartet, listening and learning to sing various vocal ranges.
At the age of 14 he discovered his grandfather’s old guitar in their garage. He dusted the guitar off and gave it a strum. Absolutely mesmerised by the melodic sound he heard, he started strumming anything that came to mind and eventually taught himself how to play a few notes.
Growing up he always enjoyed listening to soulful music he felt he could connect to. His strongest influence has always been to make music with meaning.
Kerwin’s family relocated to the beautiful town of Hermanus, where he finished his high school career and successfully wrote more than 30 poems. From starting with poems to writing sincere, catchy and heartfelt R&B Pop songs that his fans now simply cannot get enough of.
Kerwin’s debut single Whela (Kapela) was released in 2016 and has made it’s way all over South African radio, with noticable high rotation spins on stations such as Heart FM.
His latest release, Right For You has been well received within the SA Music Industry and he is currently working on an EP. Co-signed to management at Stereotype Talent Management and Cosher Recording Studios – 2018 will be a great year for Kerwin.
